Snorkeling Report Grading System

Each snorkeling report has a letter grade at the bottom of it (also listed for reference convenience in the Snorkeling Sites Index) to summarize our general opinion of the site and the trip that we took to get there.  For us, the most important factor at any snorkeling site is the visibility, followed by the variety and quantity of marine life. “Access” has become increasingly important to us as the years have gone by, and it includes (to a certain extent) our overall impression of the excursion that we took to get to the site.   Here is the standard that we use for determining the “grade” for a trip:

A (+/-) Site is Fabulous for Snorkeling.
 Excellent Visibility/Shallow Areas predominate
  Quantity of Marine Life Excellent
 Variety of Marine Life Excellent

Easy Access

B (+/-)   Site is Very Good for Snorkeling
Very Good Visibility—Good shallow areas/may be deeper in spots
Quantity of Marine Life Very Good
Variety of Marine Life Very Good

Reasonable Access (may involve some exertion)

C (+/-)  Site is Good for Snorkeling

Visibility Varies/Site is predominantly deep with only a few shallow areas

Quantity of Marine Life Good

 Variety of Marine Life Good

Access may be complicated

DSite is Poor for Snorkeling
Visibility Poor—site is deep and therefore it is difficult to see the fish
 Quantity of Marine Life Poor
 Variety of Marine Life Poor
 Access is Difficult/Tricky
